Most of the music executives I know are fantastic singers/musicians. Most of them are even better singers than some of the artistes out there in the industry. Question is; why didn't they pursue a career in singing?
I believe music executives are people who
love music but saw the numerous opportunities in the music industry and positioned themselves in their area of strength. These are people whose passions led them into their true purpose(s). They are the brains behind the scenes making the performing artistes look good. They are the real MVPs.
Truth is not everybody who loves music should be in front of the crowd singing.
Do you write amazing songs but do not seem to have the charisma to serenade/entertain your audience? I mean you have probably been in the industry for over 5 years and have written a couple of hit songs for other artistes. Why are you trying so hard to be a performing artiste? You could focus your energy into song writing and become the Diane Warren of Africa.
Are you good with spinning stories? Are you good at spreading gossip? Are you a people's person? Are you an info-junkie who loves to sing but can't hold a steady note for 2 seconds? You might want to consider PR and Publicity.
There are several opportunities in the music industry. It isn't unusual for music to attract you initially. I mean, you wouldn't even want to be in the music industry if you didn't love music in the first place. Find your area of strength and explore it. You could be an A&R manager, a publicist, a marketer, a publisher, a business manager, a road manager or anything you want to be in the music industry as long as it's your area of strength.
Don't waste your energy doing what you shouldn't be doing while your opportunities are wasting away elsewhere.
If you are in the process of discovering what it is you are created for in the music industry, please feel free to share with us in the comment box. We just might be able to help you find it! :)
