I know I'm yet to finish my recipe for success series but I promise to complete this coming week. I've been listening to Mali Music's latest album "Mali is..." since last night. It's amazing to hear good sound with great lyrics.
Not every Christian music artiste must do gospel music. We must understand that gospel music isn't just the lyrics; It's a sound. Christian music is a genre. There are different sub-genres under Christian music and gospel is one of them. There's contemporary Christian music, there's rap, there's rock, you can create yours. You can fuse different sounds and create yours. It's not so much about the sound as is it is about the lyrical content itself that makes it Christian music.
I'm one of those people who can listen to a song and block out the lyrics just because I love the sound. You'd be amazed at the kind of songs I've listened to. I'm very spiritual but hey, I love Miguel, J.Cole, Daughter, Lorde, K.Dot, name them, These guys have distinctive, magical sounds.
Whenever I hear a Christian music artiste who has a sound that's not gospel, I support them. Let's saturate our airwaves with Christian music. I could recommend this album to an agnostic friend of mine and he'd love it. If he can listen to the album it's inevitable the lyrics will speak to him. Christian music artistes need to understand the power of sound.
Not to say Christian music artistes haven't tried to do songs on secular sounds, problem is, they've done a terrible job at it.
Listen to Mali Music and tell me he doesn't sound better than even most secular artistes who do the same type of music. The argument, usually, is sounds like his are not spiritual, well I listened to the last track I Believe and broke down in tears because it totally addressed how I've felt for quite sometime. I even started to doubt God at some point but that song encouraged me. So, the spirituality of a song is determined by the state of the heart of the artiste.
If you're a Christian music artiste who has a sound different from traditional gospel sounds but is finding it difficult to express yourself, please contact me. I'm ready to work with you if you're ready to work with me.
Best wishes
Jesam.
